Shirodhara is an amazing, unique panchkarma therapy from the ancient natural medical science Ayurveda. Shirodhara has a profound impact on the nervous system. That means, the treatment directly and immediately calms, relaxes and has a cleansing effect on the mind and nerves. In this procedure a continuous stream (Dhara) poured over the centre of forehead above the 4 angula (10cm) height for 30-45 minutes duration.

On the basis of dravya used in shirodhara it can be divided as Tail dhara (medicated oil used in shirodhara) Ksheer dhara (Dhara with Milk) Takra dhara (Dhara with medicated Buttermilk) Kashaya dhara (dhara with medicated decoction) etc. On the basis of mode of action it can be divided in to Brimhan dhara (dhara nourishes the dhatus) Shodhan dhara (srotosodhan is the principle aim of treatment) samana dhara ( vata pitta and kapha dosa directly diminished). Shirodhara can be done as usna (Lukewarm) or sita (cold) depending upon the dosa status, in vata kapha condition dhara dravya should be warm, and in paittik and raktaj condition dhara dravya should be cold.

Procedure of Shirodhara :

Shirodhara treatment will be done by panchkarma therapist under the supervision of ayurvedic physician, it is performed by two therapists for 30-90 minute, procedure can be done for 7-21 days continuously,
time and duration of shirodhara will be decides on the basis of dosa and severity of disease. Before starting the shirodhara head massage should be done.
