Hypothyroidism is the state in which thyroid harmone T3 & T4 production below normal limit. These harmones are secreted from thyroid glands and regulating too many metabolic activity. Function of thyroid gland is regulated or controlled by the pituitary gland by a stimulating harmones known as Thyroid stimulating harmones (TSH).

There are many disorders that results in hypothyroidism these are directly or indirectly involve the thyroid hormones. It affects general body growth, Physical and mental development , metabolic process etc.

Causes of Hypothyroidism:

Hypothyroidism is the very common condition at present time and females are more affected than males, hypothyroidism mainly developed at the age group between 30-50 years but it may vary. Some of the common reasons are given below.

  • Hasimoto‚Äôs disease
  • Medication
  • Iodine deficiency
  • Injury
  • Pitutary gland dysfunction
  • After First delivery

Common symptoms of Hypothyroidism:

  5. Excessive sleepiness
  6. Dry , coarse hair
  7. Muscles cramp
  8. Cholesterol level may high
  9. Infertility
  10. In very severe hypothyroidism may leads to develop coma

According to ayurveda it is mainly due to virudhha ahar vihar. Kaph dosa is allivated, Mandagni develop specially dhatwagi and slowdown the uttarotara dhatu conversion. Ayurvedic treatment are based on kaphshamak and agnivardhak chikitsa.

If you have hypothyroidism, you need to limit the quantities of certain foods in your diets including sweet potatoes, broccoli, pearl millet, lima beans, maize, cauliflower, soy, and cabbage. If you have hyperthyroidism, you need to avoid foods such as hydrogenated vegetable oil, red meat, added sugars, enriched milk, caffeine and iodine rich foods etc.

The most effective herb to treat thyroid kachnar also known as Bauhinia variegata in Ayurveda. Some of the other herbs are punarnava, Kanchanar Guggulu, gokshura, shilajita, googol, Brahmi, and jatamansi.
